Australia’s ultimate adventure and outdoors title, Outer Edge covers a range of pursuits including hiking, biking, paddling, camping, adventure racing and tourism, rock climbing, abseiling, off-road driving (leave no trace, of course), fishing, snow sports, kite and board sports, and any activity that involves fresh air, adrenaline and the wilderness. For the café kings, we even slide in a bit of urban adventure. Published every two months, the magazine is stuffed full of practical adventure ideas and features, outdoor news, interviews and profiles, camp cooking tips, health and fitness pages and equipment, book and DVD reviews. There’s event listings, adventure watch, adventure guides and plenty of competitions, too. We credit our readership with a high degree of intelligence; hence the editorial style waxes lyrical and literate - think Tim Cahill, Gary Smith, AA Gill and Mark Dapin – while the pictorial style is big, bold and punchy. Outer beginningsOuter Edge was previously owned and published by outdoor super retailer, Anaconda. In October 2008, after 18 months and ten editions, the magazine effectively passed from adolescence to adulthood with a change of publisher. Prime Creative Media’s managing director, John Murphy, recognizes the huge potential the title has and, with a matured magazine and redeveloped website complete, will look to take the title from six to ten issues in the future. Says editor Patrick Kinsella: “Prime Creative Media has presented us with a unique and extremely exciting opportunity to take Outer Edge to the next level as an independent voice in a dynamic and ever-expanding market,” he said. “The strength of Outer Edge in particular lies in our spread of coverage across a huge variety of outdoor activities, rather than concentrating on one niche.” |
